I may be biased as a brain scientist, but for me it’s got to be the brain!

How did you think of that question, transform it into words and type it down? The brain!

Accidentally, I seem to work on lots of different things that are to do with the kidney!

For example, I’ve worked on a virus called BK polyomavirus, which can cause kidney failure in people whose immune system isn’t working properly.

I have also worked on a protein called beta-2 microglobulin. In people whose kidneys aren’t working properly, so are on dialysis treatment to remove waste from their blood, this protein builds up and causes painful joints in a disease called dialysis related amyloidosis.

So, I would have to say the kidney! Plus they are nice in a pie with steak (not human kidneys though!)

I think the blood, but I might also be biased by my job 😛

The blood is made of red blood cells which carry oxygen, white blood cells which fight infection, platelets which make scabs when you cut yourself, and plasma which contains water and lots of proteins. It also carries nutrients from your food to your cells all over the body. And you can’t live without it!
There are so many things to learn about the blood, that it fascinates me 🙂

I tend to deal with lots of different areas, as we treat just about everything! But my specialty is brain radiotherapy so id say the brain.

Plus, it is just an amazing thing. It controls so much, and does so much that we still dont understand, even with all our technology and research we’re still a long way away from replicating it.
