      A great question!

The most important thing a scientist needs is passion. Science is hard, the hours can be long and the experiments don’t always work, so what you need more of all is a strong positive mental attitude, and if you have a real passion for your work, you’ll be able to keep going no matter what happens. A scientist can’t give up when things look bad, and have to be able to produce new data reliably.

So determination, passion, and a strong mindset all make a good scientist.

I agree with Matt, passion, determination and drive is what you need. you don’t need to be the best at science, or the best at maths, or get the top grades. You just need to want to keep learning, and have a passion for the job you do. That is what gets you through the tough times, and makes the easy times so much fun!

I’d also say passion for your work, without it you’d probably give up after a few bumps in the road! I’d also say the ability to keep calm when things arent going well! It’s easy to get stressed and let your judgment get clouded if things arent going your way, so being able to think rationally under pressure is important!
