      Hi Ben!

I’d say discovering or developing something new because you really feel like you’re making a contribution to whatever field you’re in. My job isn’t really research based so I don’t really make ‘discoveries’ but I do undertake projects to develop and improve what we do. For instance bringing in a new treatment technique or a new fancy piece of kit or developing a new dose protocol. I get to be involved in these from the beginning though and then see them put into use for the benefit of our patients which is quite cool! 🙂

      EDIT:
Oh, and going to conferences and stuff! As a scientist you quite often get paid to go abroad and listen to people present their work or even present your own, that’s always nice! 🙂

      EDIT EDIT:
I swear I wrote my edit before seeing Matt’s answer, not copying I promise! ha

For me, my favourite part is when I take all the data I spent a long time gathering, and then present it at conferences! I love presenting work to other scientists to see their opinion, especially if the conferences are in other countries, it’s like work and a holiday all in one 😀

I think publishing my data is the best part. you spend months, or years working on something, then write it up into a paper, that tells the story of what you did, how u did it, and what it means. this then gets published so that other scientists can read it. It is really cool to see that your work is influencing other people!

Also to take this published work and go to conferences to present it is awesome, like the guys said!
