My current work is all about finding better ways to research Parkinson’s and Huntington’s diseases. Currently a huge amount of money and time is invested in studying these diseases, and not many of these experiments get positive results. If it was easier to do this research, it would be easier to find treatments for the diseases! My current work is about developing a model to make this research easier, for everyone working on Parkinson’s and Hungtington’s, in order to work towards a treatment or cure 😀

I am currently trying to find a way to make the white blood cells in the lungs work better, to make them eat more bacteria so that people with emphysema don’t get as many infections. This would make life better for thousands of people in the UK.

I’m currently working on 2 projects:

The first is to come up with some ways to measure how good our brain treatment plans are, and then to set minimum/maximum values for these so that we can make sure that all our future plans meet the same standard.

The other is to bring in a new technique for treating some of our brain tumour patients. This will use arc treatment which delivers radiation continuously as the machine rotates around the patient, this means the dose to the normal tissues is more spread out.

Both of these should help us to improve the way we treat these patients, which in turn should help save, or at least prolong, a few more lives.
