Hi Cup Cakes! Cool name! ha

Well the effects of radiotherapy are already very local to where we’re treating. Radiotherapy doesnt cause hair loss and doesnt make you sick like chemotherapy. The side effects depend on what we’re treating. For example if we’re treating a lung tumour then giving some dose to the lung is unavoidable and so the patient might get a cough or shortness of breath. If we’re treating in the pelvis then the patient might get a bit of diarrhoea! But these side effects normally stop after treatment.

All the projects and trials that we do are aimed at reducing these side effects and improving our cure rates, so it is a big concern for us. We also know which doses have what likelihood of producing a side effect and so have very strict dose limits for every organ.
