My family have always been very supportive of me!

When I first applied to go to university, I was going to take law. On the day I got my A level results, I changed my mind and decided to study biology instead. My parents could have freaked out but they were really supportive and said I should study what I was most interested in. I’m so glad I studied biology instead of law!

Both my parents are scientists too, so I think they’re happy that I chose to follow in their footsteps! I always show them my new work and whenever I get featured in the news or a conference and they’re with me every step of the way!

      Yes completely!
I was the first person in my family to go to University, and the first to get a PhD, so they are very proud of me 🙂 My mum hates that I keep moving further away from home when I change jobs, but she understands why and comes to visit me. They are very supportive 🙂

Yep, very supportive! I was also the first in my family to get a degree but I think mine were quite glad for me to move away, mostly because there really arent many opportunities where I come from.

None of my family really understand what I do though, even after almost 5 years! They know its ‘something to do with x-rays’, which is probably about 30% right, but I’ve given up explaining it to them! ha.
