I think there are lots of important jobs in the world, not just scientist! It takes lots of people doing many different jobs to make society work, and personally I think they are all important!

For me, being a scientist is important both because together we can try and find out how the universe works (learning is exciting and worthwhile, even if its not immediately useful), as well as finding things out that can be used to make the world a better place (new medicines, ways to grow more food, things like that).

Having said that, if all the scientists went on strike for a day, I’m not 100 % anyone would really notice. If all the doctors went on strike for a day, a lot of people would notice…

It depends on your definition of importance!

Science is important as it allows society and technology to progress, but to some people some things are more important than progress, such as using what we currently have. Medical doctors and nurses are extremely important, as they use current medical science to treat people. But at the same time, teachers are important, as they help educate the world and allow people to ask such informed questions! But don’t forget about cleaners, technicians and maintenance work, as society couldn’t run for long without efforts to keep things going as they always do.

So mainly yes, there are more important jobs, but it depends on your perspective!

Yes definitely! I think a proper society only works when we have lots of people doing different jobs, and without those jobs nothing would work!

Science is important to find out more about the body and the world. But we also need teachers so that the next generation of scienstist (and other jobs) can be trained up, we need doctors to keep us healthy, engineers to design big fancy microscopes for us to use, builders to build houses and labs! And lots of other things. So I don’t think science is the most important job, but it is my favourite one!
