My friends and family are supportive of what I do, so everybody believed me when I said I wanted to do science!

If they didn’t believe I could do it, I will make sure I did it, to show them 🙂

      Hi Scarlette K,

Great question and one that I’m sure many aspiring scientists grapple with. The short version of my answer is that if someone thinks that you can’t do something think about why they are telling you that – more than likely as not its because they care for you and are scared that you might get hurt by aiming too high and failing, I know that’s what some people said to me when I said as a kid I wanted to discover new green fuels. But the trick is, acknowledging that they care for you and want you not to fail, but say that it’s ok, it’s worth the risk and it’s the journey that matters and not the destination, you might not end up where you aimed but you can surely be a scientist if you try and work hard enough and ultimately it’s you spirit of curiosity and inquisitive mind that will carry you through – there is no reason whatsoever that you shouldn’t pursue any dream that you have!

      Hope that helps?

Not that I know of, so that is good! When i was at university, my Dad kept asking me why I wasn’t doing Pharmacy, to become a pharmacist, because he thought that was a pretty goo job to do. I had to keep telling him that it wasn’t what i wanted to do. Eventually he got the message!
If someone had told me they didn’t think I could do it, then I would have worked even harder to do it anyway, so I could prove them wrong!
